At a time a peripheral area of the city, this “quartier” is named after a path (French: Sentier) leading to the city’s fortifications. Now called the Sentier district, it was known until recently for the activities in the textile trade. As a commercial and manufacturing area, many pioneering stone and cast iron structure were built in the course of the late 19th century.
